〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Kurt
CHARACTER AGE: At least 60, but looks like he’s in his late 30s
SERIES: People of Earth
CHRONOLOGY: Right after the season 2 finale
CLASS: Hero (really more like nominal hero)
HOUSING: Roommates please
BACKGROUND:
The show is based on actual conspiracy theories about aliens, and the main plot involves an alien alliance trying to take over the world, a big part of which involves planting disguised Reptilian aliens in important parts of human society. We don’t get a lot of Kurt’s backstory in canon, but we know that he’s been part of the plan to take over the Earth for several decades. Years before the series started, he helped his fellow Reptilian, Jonathan Walsh, abduct humans (mostly kids) for experiments so Walsh could learn how to blend in with humans.
One notable instance was when he, Jonathan and another Reptilian were having a meeting in the back of a convenience store, and a child named Ozzie Graham wandered in on them. Kurt wanted to just kill him, but Jonathan convinced him to instead take Ozzie to the ship with the other kids they’d taken. After a couple of days on the ship, the kids’ memories of their abductions were erased and they were sent back to Earth.
While Jonathan was planted on Earth as the head of a media empire, Kurt mostly stayed on the ship orbiting the Earth, doing research and office work.
Kurt, along with his alien coworkers Jeff (a gray) and Don (a White), would revisit and re-abduct their subjects when they got older. Kurt personally appeared before the now adult Ozzie and brought him back onto the ship for further examination and tissue gathering. Like before, Ozzie’s memory of this event was erased and a false memory was implanted of him hitting a deer with his car to mask the incident. Kurt also implanted a chip inside Ozzie’s brain during this second abduction.
However, Ozzie began to remember his abduction after meeting, and later joining, a support group for alien abductees called Starcrossed. Despite Jonathan’s insistence that he could keep Ozzie from the truth, Kurt decided to take matters into his own hands. Donning his human disguise, he beamed down to Earth to “take care” of Ozzie. He didn’t get very far, because Gina, the head of Starcrossed, accidentally hit him with her car and killed him. A human police officer working with the aliens found his body and covered up the accident.
Kurt’s body was sent back up to the ship and placed in a glass coffin, where he was mourned by Jeff and Don. Jeff, who secretly had romantic feelings for Kurt, spent the rest of the first season trying to find out who killed Kurt and get revenge. Jeff eventually found out it was Gina and planned to murder her. He was also going to kill Ozzie, since Jeff knew that Jonathan had a soft spot for him, and he felt that Jonathan was just as responsible for Kurt’s death, since Kurt went down to Earth to clean up Jonathan’s mess. Jeff was ultimately unsuccessful, thanks to Jonathan’s interference.
In season 2, the aliens got a new boss, a floating cube named Eric who was basically the kind of boss who pretends to be friendly but is actually a huge jerk. Eric callously ordered Jeff to dispose of Kurt’s body, much to Jeff’s sadness. Before he carried out this order, Jeff kissed Kurt goodbye on the mouth, and almost immediately, Kurt miraculously sprang back to life. Jeff brought Kurt back up to speed regarding the change in management, and both agreed their new boss was a jerk. Kurt settled back into his normal routine, getting right back to work, despite now shouting “car!” sometimes. With Kurt back to life, Jeff called off his revenge.
Not long after this, Jonathan barely escaped from a Reptilian hit man and beamed on board the ship, where he managed to get on Eric’s good side. Jonathan then informed Kurt, Jeff, and Don that Eric had it out for all of them and was planning to kill Ozzie’s friends in Starcrossed. The four then decided to plan a mutiny.
In the final episode, the mutiny went off without a hitch. The four aliens grabbed Eric while he was recharging, placed him in a glass box, and threatened to throw him out the airlock. While Jonathan went to save Starcrossed, the other three kept an eye on Eric. However, things went awry when Don was left to watch Eric alone. While Don’s back was turned, Eric shrunk to microscopic size, tricking the other aliens into opening the box so he could escape. Eric then took over Don’s brain and beamed Jeff and Kurt down to Earth, right as Jeff finally admitted his feelings for Kurt. Kurt was last seen crossing the road and getting hit by a car yet again.
PERSONALITY:
Kurt’s part of an invasion plan to take over the Earth, and he treats this pretty casually, as if it were a regular office job and not something that’s going to affect an entire planet. The scenes on the alien ship are deliberately written and shot like a workplace comedy, and Kurt’s just another white collar employee.
He doesn’t think much of humans. Notably, when a human kid just happened to stumble across a small Reptilian meeting, his first suggestion is to just kill the kid, and it’s stated that he always wants to kill any human who happens to see too much. It’s not that Kurt enjoys killing, but more that he thought killing Ozzie was the most practical solution, and he didn’t protest when Jonathan suggested just abducting Ozzie. Kurt went along with the mutiny mainly because he hated Eric, rather than any desire to save the humans in Starcrossed or subvert the invasion. He also made it clear that he was sick of Earth by the time they decide to mutiny.
Kurt has some surgical skills, including brain surgery, since he’s the one who implants a chip in Ozzie’s brain when he finds out Ozzie has an increased possibility of recovering his erased memories. Kurt’s likely the one who knows the most about brain chips, since when Jeff tried to fiddle with the computer program linked to the chip, he was completely lost and had to consult a manual a few times. He also seems to be pretty computer-savvy and tech-minded, since a lot of the promos show him at a computer console, and he’s seen working at one when Ozzie remembers his second abduction.
As someone who primarily works on the ship, Kurt likely doesn’t go out onto the field very often. Otherwise, he might have known that standing out in the middle of a road is a bad idea. The aforementioned traffic incidents show that he can do dumb things when he’s in uncharted waters, but he also has his moments of ingenuity, such as using a flower to lure a bee away after finding out bees pollinate flowers. He’s less likely to make foolish decisions in familiar settings, like on the ship or among his fellow aliens.
In some of ways, Kurt’s not very observant. In addition to failing to notice that a car was about to hit him, he was also completely oblivious to Jeff’s feelings for him. Jonathan indicates that he, and possibly Don, knew all along that Jeff is in love with Kurt, but when Jeff finally confesses to Kurt, he’s surprised. Jeff also wasn’t very subtle about having a soft spot for Kurt, especially after coming back to life.
Kurt's a pretty easy guy to get along with, once you get to know him. He's often seen having water cooler talk with people he likes, sometimes about things they find interesting, and sometimes just goofing off, like getting into an impromptu whistling session. He can also sometimes do typical annoying things, like stealing from the fridge or giving someone a hard time if they mess up. He's never malicious to people he considers friends or just friendly coworkers, and any jerkish things he does to any such person is his idea of ribbing. If he gets short with someone, usually he'll just tell them to shut up. He has a good sense of humor, even if that humor sometimes comes at the expense of others.
Any minuscule knowledge he has about things outside his culture likely comes from the internet, since a few of the shorts and episodes establish that the ship has an internet connection and the aliens are seen browsing the web. So it's likely that he gets online when he's off the clock or possibly even when he's bored at work, but doesn't look up anything actually useful.
POWER:
Reptilian physiology. Canon. Reptilians are very strong, as seen when a Reptilian throws a grown man through the air like he was nothing. They also have acidic blood that can eat through asphalt.
Skinsuit Generation. Non-canonical power. If Kurt’s skin suit is damaged, he can regenerate it at will, with the damaged fake skin growing back. However, he’ll enter a state where he becomes catatonic while the suit is repairing itself. Repair time can take hours, depending on the extent of the damage. He can snap himself out of his catatonia if he needs to, like if danger's nearby, but this will cause the regeneration to come to a stop until he re-enters that state. For example, if he loses one of his suit's hands, then he can find a place to sit down, enter his catatonic state and the skin suit will start to regenerate over the course of two hours, and new fake skin will slowly grow over his natural scaly skin. His skin suit will always look as it does in the show, and he can’t change its appearance. He can also completely spawn a new suit, but the same restrictions apply, and it may take as long as 24 hours to completely spawn a new suit. While wearing the skin suit, he can also make his eyes revert back to their natural Reptilian appearance, which is something that happens on the show a lot when we’re meant to know that a character’s a Reptilian.
〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[Kurt's wearing his skin suit, and is seen sitting in his kitchen with a bag of french fries and onion rings nearby. He has an onion ring in his hand and he talks through a mouthful of food.]
Okay, no food as any right to be this delicious.
[He pops the onion ring into his mouth and keeps talking.]
I tried it just out of curiosity, and now I can't help myself.
Are deep fried grubs or crickets a thing? Tell me deep fried grubs are a thing. If not, I will pay someone to make them. And don't tell me I'm the only one that would eat them. The natives would probably try them just because an imPort came up with them, let's be real.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
Sometimes Kurt wonders why the Alliance even wants Earth. The planet gets too cold for half of the year, and he can’t go anywhere without his skin suit. At least, he has to if he wants others to mind their own beeswax. Come to an alternate reality version of Earth, and instantly he’s got unwanted celebrity status. Someone even asked him for a selfie the other day.
“When I get back home, I’m never, ever leaving.”
And because he still hasn’t learned, he walks out into the road and almost gets clipped by a car, “Eat a dick, car!”
FINAL NOTES:
Kurt will be coming over to MoM with the outfit he wears in the show, and his human skin suit.
